CLAIRE BOUCL
Petalist
ABOUT CLAIRE
Claire Boucl is a visual artist and petalist whose research centers on plant matter and its metamorphoses. Her two primary materials—flower petals and branches—become, in turn, monumental frescoes in the landscape, meticulous compositions on paper, and sculptural forms. By revisiting traditional crafts such as basketry, marquetry, and lace-making, she explores the connections between craftsmanship, memory, and ecology, reinventing a visual language at the intersection of art and the living world.
In 2006, she began research on preserving the color of petals, which, after ten years of experimentation, led to the invention of a natural stabilization technique that requires no chemical products. Since 2016, she has collaborated with the Maison Boucheron, which used her petals to create the Fleurs Éternelles high-jewelry collection in 2018—an emblematic project at the crossroads of craft, innovation, and contemporary haute joaillerie.
Today, her work—situated between art and research—places the notion of reviviscence at the heart of her practice. By questioning the ability of plant life to be reborn and to transform, her artworks open new perspectives on the creation of the materials of the future.
